Floor Coating Questions, Answered Simply
Answers to common questions
How do I choose a floor coating provider?
Ask for a written quote that lists prep steps, the coating type and the cure time. Ask how they handle moisture and old repairs. Check that they carry their own license and insurance where your area requires it. Providers in our network work independently, so compare at least two quotes before you say yes.
Can I coat my garage floor myself?
You can do the basics: sweep, scrape, degrease and test the slab for moisture. Many homeowners stop there. Grinding, crack repair and mixing fast-curing coatings take tools and practice. If the slab is damp, cracked or very old, know when to stop and ask a local provider to take over.
How do I know if my slab is too damp to coat?
Tape a square of clear plastic to the bare floor and seal all four edges. Leave it for a day or two. If water beads up underneath, moisture is rising through the slab. In a long wet season this is common, so a provider may need to treat it first.
How much does an epoxy garage floor cost?
In the U.S., a typical epoxy garage floor runs about $3 to $12 per square foot. Polyaspartic and custom finishes often cost more. Slab condition, repairs, size and the number of coats all change the price. Get a written quote that spells out each step before work begins.
How long will the work take, and can we still use the house?
Many garage floors take one to three days of work, plus cure time before cars return. Plan around life: ask the provider about a schedule that keeps your driveway, kids and daily routine moving. Foot traffic and vehicle use are usually allowed at different times, so ask for both.
Is my older home a problem for a new coating?
Not always, but older slabs hold surprises. You may find patched cracks, old sealers, oil stains or thin concrete over a crawl space. A good provider will inspect first, test for moisture and adhesion, and tell you what prep is needed. Ask them to explain anything unusual they find.
How do I keep a coated floor looking good?
Sweep or dust mop weekly and wipe up spills when they happen. Wash with a mild cleaner and a soft mop. Skip harsh acids and stiff wire brushes. Put mats at the door to catch grit, and ask your provider about the right care for your coating.
What does Everybodyclubs Floor Coating do, and what happens when I ask for an estimate?
Everybodyclubs Floor Coating is a referral service. It does not do the work. You share details about your floor, and we connect you with an independent local provider in our network. The provider then contacts you to discuss the job and give a quote. There is no obligation to hire anyone.
